You may be aware that there has been some uncertainty about rule changes following an EU withdrawal of the standard BS/EN1384 on riding hats. British Dressage have announced confirmation that hats complying with this standard will be allowed in BD competition through to the end of 2016 (it had earlier been stated that this would be for 2015 only). The British Horse Society has also published articles on this, but in respect of the British Dressage position these pre-date the BD announcement. You should check with your own affiliated organisation on their current rules.
In any event it is always good practice to check your hat regularly for damage, and replace if in any doubt!
